About the Artist

When did you start writing/producing/playing your own music?

I started learning the guitar when I was 12 and soon developed a passion for music. When I was 14 I received a 4 track machine and I was off recording and writing songs. By the time I was 16 I had already written and produced 3 albums! It is something that has stayed with me ever since and is now part of my DNA!

Could you describe what part of the creative process is particularly dear to you?

I love listening parties at the end of a session or project because it is really the first time you get to hear what your vision sounds like and you can finally switch off and take it at face value.

Listening can be both a solitary and a communal activity. Likewise, creating music can be private or collaborative. Do you have a preference?

Being an only child, I always found solitude in music, so hence a lot of the songs I have written have been by myself. I would like to collaborate with other songwriters for the very purpose of writing new songs, not necessarily for me but for other people, that is something that I’d love to explore in the future.

About the Album

Tell us about your new album GET A LOAD OF THIS! Is there a story behind it? What were the influences or inspirations to write it?

The new album is called ‘GET A LOAD OF THIS!’ and it was recorded live back in 2008 for the launch of my debut album at the time ‘Force of Nature’. I assembled an all-star 10-piece band to launch it and I had the presence of mind to record it! However, I had completely forgotten about and it until I was working on ‘Second Nature’ and I rediscovered it sitting on a DVD with no label! I sent the files over to Ben Worsey to provide a rough mix to hear what was there, and we went from there.

Releasing music is such a mammoth effort. What are the biggest challenges? What things did you learn in the process?

It is and it isn’t. I do enjoy the process and it is hard work, I sometimes wish I did have more hours in the day to get things done as I still have to work my regular day job 5 days a week!

What formats will be the release available on? What is the best place for people to find and support your music?

For ‘GET A LOAD OF THIS!’ I have pressed CD’s and a companion photo album which is available separately or as a bundle. I also have around 30 copies of ‘Second Nature’ on white vinyl still available, best place to pick up a copy is www.richardmadden.com.au/music-merch/

What's next?

What’s next for the band?

Well I am just lining up a few dates as we speak, these will be sometime in early 2023, stay tuned!
